DEVON JAMES (BOSTON):
Born in Boston to a family deeply rooted in music that flouts the mainstream, it is no surprise that Devon James is now one of the most influential and recognized names in the American underground dance music scene.
His undeniable style and his increasingly impressive DJ skills and unique track selection have landed him spots playing in support of legendary artists including Kerri Chandler, Moodymann, Derrick Carter, Honey Dijon, as well as modern icons like Chris Lake, Skream, Mija, Walker & Royce, and Dennis Ferrer, to name a few. He’s toured extensively across the country and has played at many of the most well-regarded venues and festivals in the states.
Although his sets are always the highlight of the evening, DJing is hardly the limit of Devon’s awe-inspiring musical talent. Devon James has become one of the most well-versed producers and studio engineers in the game. With releases on W+O Street Tracks, Reptile Dysfunction, Farris Wheel Recordings, Founders of Filth, SOUP, Psycho Disco, Staybad, and production credits alongside the likes of Felix Da Housecat, Lee “Scratch” Perry, and Gettoblaster there is no task Devon James can’t tackle.
James is still expanding his influence in the arts, particularly in underground dance music. Since 2012 his RVDIOVCTIVE artist collective and event series brings that intention to life with parties that blend social and political movements with dynamic lineups reflecting both the foundation and future of electronic music culture. In 2022, they launched their own record label only further expanding their reach and capabilities.
Evocative, experimental, and always focused on fun, James’ myriad influences converge in a career that is deeply rooted in staying unique and coming correct.
