SUMMARY:Black Uhuru w/ The Medicinals - Electric City - Buffalo\, NY
DESCRIPTION:ALL AGES \nDoors: 7:00 PMThe Medicinals: 8:00 PM – 9:00 PMBlack Uhuru: 9:30 PM – 10:45 PM \n_____________________________________ \nFor over 50 years Black Uhuru has remained one of the most popular recognized prolific reggae band from Jamaica. The living legends have earned several achievements in the music industry including winning the first ever Grammy Award for reggae music. They’re long success along with having the highest reggae record sales after Bob Marley & the most songs sampled by other artist over the years has allowed them to become Ambassadors of reggae. \nThe roots of Black Uhuru formed in Kingston’s “Waterhouse” District in the late 60’s. It is the home of founder & leader Derrick “Duckie” Simpson along with all the rest of the singers from the group. The original Uhuru’s Swahili for “freedom” were Duckie\, Don Carlos & Garth Dennis. The first song was a Curtis Mayfield cover of “Folk Song”. They made only a couple more songs before Don left to pursue a solo career & Garth joined Wailing Souls. The two were replaced by Michael Rose & Errol Nelson both from Waterhouse. They recorded the debut album “Love Crises” in 1977 for Prince Jammy later re-released as “Black Sounds of Freedom”. Errol later left the group to join the Jays & was replaced by female singer Puma Jones. \nThis new line-up is when the band began to collaborate with Sly & Robbie & developed the “classic Uhuru” sound of the 80’s. A unique style full of heavy drum & bass\, sharp keys\, loud guitar riffs & long instrumentals filled with whirly background effects & the signature “wow oh-oh oh’s” echo. It was during this period they signed with Island Records. They began touring internationally & started receiving worldwide attention. They recorded some of their most popular albums like “Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner” “Sensimelia” & “Chill Out”. The album “Red” was voted #23 for Rolling Stone Magazine list of 100 greatest albums of the 80’s. And history was made when they won reggae’s first grammy award in 1984 for the album “Anthem”. Shortly after the grammy Michael left the group to go solo. \nAnother Waterhouse resident named Junior Reid became the new lead singer. Two albums were released “Brutal” nominated for grammy & “Positive” with Ras Records. These albums included popular hits like “Dreadlocks on the Mountain” “Fit You Haffi Fit” & one of the groups first music videos “Great Train Robbery”. Sadly due to ill health Puma passed away in 1990. Around this time Jr. Reid was having visa issues unable to tour. \nDuring the mid 90’s the original members reunited. Four albums were released “Now”\, “Iron”\, Storm”\, “Mystical Truth” & “Strongg” all nominated for grammy. They made an award-winning music video for “Tip of the Iceberg” that featured rap star Ice-T & another video for “One Love” featuring Louie Rankin. They performed live on television for VH1 a cover version of Jimmy Hendrix “Hey Joe”. In 1994 they won the Diamonds Awards for Excellence. Unfortunately\, the group began to dispute over band legal rights & went to court in the late 90’s. Duckie won the rights to the name. \nAs the new millennium approached Duckie found Andrew Bee’s once again from Waterhouse. Bee’s first tour with the band was in 1996 in Brazil. They released two albums “Unification” in 1998 & “Dynasty” in 2001. In 2002 they reunited with Sly & Robbie for an international world tour & released a live album/dvd “Dubbin it Live”. The group resurfaced in 2010 & has been touring extensively throughout Europe\, South America & the United States. In 2012 they performed in a Broadway musical in Los Angeles called “Loving the Silent Tears”. In 2013 Duckie was awarded a lifetime achievement award from the IRWMA. In 2017 they released a new single & music video “Jah Guide” a Peter Tosh tribute that featured Bugle. \nIn 2018 Black Uhuru released “As The World Turns” the newest album after 15 years. It was nominated for “Best Reggae Album” at the 61st Grammy Awards. For the first time it featured Duckie on lead for the entire album. To support the album the band headed on a major US Tour & Hawaii. During the East Coast leg of the tour they appeared live on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series where they performed a new single “I See You” taken from the “Tropical House Cruises to Jamaica Reloaded” album produced by Sean Edwards of Contractor Music. Two music videos “Chalice” & “War Crime” were filmed by Benji Cooper for the album both featured on Reggaeville. \nRight before the pandemic Black Uhuru went on a small West Coast Tour with Dylan’s Dharma & Etana where they performed at the One Love Festival in Long Beach. During the “lock-down” the band was idle all of 2020. Duckie did one live stream performance for Kumar’s Kulture Walk St. Bess live video stream series during reggae month. \nIn 2021 Black Uhuru released a new single “Jamaica to Here” mixed by Shaquille “Skunga” Kong\, “Med Dread” & Mark “Jah Servant” Giles. Early this year in 2022 Black Uhuru just released a new full length album titled “New Day” & music video for “Brand New Day” that features the members of Dylan’s Dharma band. Partnering with Law Records the album was produced by King Hopeton at his Double Lion Studio in Helltown California & mixed by Jermaine “Ajang” Forde with Dylan’s Dharma band as the Executive Producers.Three music videos were made for the album “Top Ranking”\, “Gal Next Door” & the title track “New Day” all filmed by King Hopeton. \nAfter the Pandemic Black Uhuru got back on the road in 2022. Starting with a small West Coast US Tour with Dlyan’s Dharma in the Spring. Then in the Summer they headlined the Puerto Rico Reggae Festival at the Tito Puente Amphitheater. And finished a major US Tour in the Fall. \nIn 2023 Duckie released a new track titled “Teaching of his Majesty” that features Jah Mason from Boxy Records. Black Uhuru went on one small US West Coast Tour & headlined the Truckee Reggae Fest. \n_____________________________________ \nThe Medicinals are an 8 piece band from Western NY that was forged out of a mutual love and respect for Reggae music. The current line-up\, established in 2023\, is led by Dylan Savage\, known for his work as co-vocalist and guitarist of Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad. Their live set includes songs from his original catalog such as “Live And Travel” which was featured on the CBS show “Hawaii 5-0″ and “Nice Feeling” which can be heard on the Netflix show “Bloodlines”. Inspired by classic Roots Reggae and modern American Reggae sounds\, the band’s latest singles “Reach You” and “Love The Sound”\, released on Jackson Yard Records\, capture the essence of their genre while being unique and fresh to old and new audiences alike. \nThe Medicinals have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with such national touring acts as: Joan Jett & the Blackhearts\, Julian Marley\, Sublime with Rome\, The Wailers\, Bumping Uglies\, Kabaka Pyramid\, Lettuce\, Donna the Buffalo\, John Brown’s Body\, and Sophistafunk to name a few.

SUMMARY:Sunset Sundays: Shiba San\, June 7
DESCRIPTION:MNM Presents \nSunset Sundays ’26 ☼𓂃 \nCelebrating our 21st year of house\, breaks\, techno & more; along the water and under the sunsets. World-class DJs\, top-tier sound\, the longest running club night in the area 🌊 \nSeason passes & more –go to mnmpresents.com \nShiba SanSunday June 7thw/ special guestsDave SifMatt VandenbergJ Victor \nShiba Sanshibasan.com \nShiba San makes house music that swings like hip-hop and hits like a warehouse rave at 4am. That duality isn’t accidental\, it’s biography. Born and raised in France\, Frédéric spent 15 years embedded in France’s hip-hop scene\, producing records for other artists while staying invisible behind the boards. \nBy 2012\, he’d exhausted what French hip-hop had left to offer him and pivoted entirely; funneling a career’s worth of rhythmic instinct into the house music that had captivated him since he first dug through Chicago house vinyl as a teenager. \nThe Shiba San project detonated fast. “Okay\,” released on Dirtybird in 2014\, held the #1 position on Beatport’s House chart for 82 consecutive days\, earned support from Pete Tong\, Annie Mac\, Green Velvet\, and Claude VonStroke\, and won Best Underground Dance Track at the International Dance Music Awards; an honor he repeated the following year with “Burn Like Fire.” Rolling Stone called it “a global club sensation in waiting.” \nSince then\, Shiba has released on Dirtybird\, DFTD\, Suara\, Relief Records\, and Repopulate Mars\, racking up over 15 Beatport #1s and headlining rooms from Ministry of Sound to Exchange LA to Club Space. Festivals include Coachella\, EDC\, Movement\, Holy Ship\, and BPM. \nIn 2017\, he founded Basement Leak\, a label designed to release the kind of funk-driven\, no compromise house music that doesn’t fit neatly into algorithmic playlists. The roster includes Tim Baresko\, Black V Neck\, Nautik\, and Will Clark\, with curated stages at Art Basel and Miami Music Week. \nNow based in Miami\, Shiba San is pushing into rawer\, more visceral territory; the kind of dusty\, loose-limbed grooves that feel more bonfire than bottle service. A new wave of releases is loaded and ready. The quiet era is over. \nw/ special guests \nSunset Sundays ’26 ☼𓂃May 24th through Sep 6th\, 2026On the water at Buffalo RiverworksFeat. sweeping views & L-Acoustics sound5/24 6/7 6/21 7/5 7/19 8/2 8/16 8/30 9/6Nine Sundays under the sun & stars 6pm – 11pm 21+ \nHosted byMNM Presentsmnmpresents.com

SUMMARY:John Papa Gros Band w. The Brass Machine @ Town Ballroom The Big Easy in Buffalo NOLA series
DESCRIPTION:John Papa Gros Band w. The Brass BachineThe Big Easy in Buffalo NOLA seriesTown BallroomFriday June 5\, 7pm doors\, 8pm showGeneral admission\, seating and standing room$20 advance\, $25 day-ofhttps://www.etix.com/ticket/p/45421266/john-papa-gros-band-buffalo-town-ballroom-buffalony \n“John ‘Papa’ Gros is a bedrock New Orleans artist\, a keyboardist\, singer and songwriter who draws on funk\, rhythm & blues and Americana songcraft; he also knows his way around the Mardi Gras music repertoire about as well as anyone.” – Keith Spera The New Orleans Advocate \nBetween 2000 and 2013\, Gros led Papa Grows Funk\, a highly revered group that mixed hard-hitting funk grooves with often unpredictable jazz spontaneity. The band released six critically-acclaimed studio albums. The group’s weekly gigs at the world-famous Maple Leaf became a staple for both locals and tourists alike\, eventually leading to Gros touring in far off countries like Japan and Brazil. \nAfter Papa Grows Funk dissolved\, Gros briefly returned to sideman work\, playing organ for a series of all-star tributes to Dr. John and the Neville Brothers. The 2014 Dr. John tribute\, The Music Mojo of Dr. John\, was later released as a critically-acclaimed live album that featured Gros playing with Bruce Springsteen\, Mavis Staples\, Jason Isbell\, and John Fogerty. More importantly for Gros\, those tribute concerts allowed him to play alongside his two biggest influences: the Doctor and Art Neville\, both of whom passed in 2019. \nTurning his attention back to being a bandleader\, John has now released four albums\, including this year’s “Giants” which pays tribute to some of his main musical influences. “I’m walking in the same path [as Dr. John\, Allen Toussaint\, and Art Neville\,]” explains Gros. “I’ve been following them my whole life. Now\, they’re no longer in front of me. They’ve gotten off the path but the path is still very clear.” \nThe Brass Machine lays down funky New Orleans-style street beats. Formed in 2014 at the University at Buffalo\, The Brass Machine provides a unique blend of jazz\, funk\, and R&B\, all in an infectious and energetic brass-y package. Having performed alongside national acts such as Earth\, Wind\, and Fire\, Starship\, The Soul Rebels\, Rebirth Brass Band\, Bonerama\, John Papa Gros\, CJ Chenier and more – The Brass Machine is hittin’ the streets HARD. Led by frontman “Kidd” Kyle Yagielski\, the group has been named the best FUNK BAND in Western New York three years in a row by JazzBuffalo. If you want to hear music that’s good for your souls and soles\, come party with The Brass Machine! \nSince 2007 The Big Easy in Buffalo has brought New Orleans and Louisiana music and culture to the Western New York region several times a year for free and low cost live performance\, as well as music education and mentoring for local musicians\, students\, and the community. Through The Big Easy in Buffalo thousands of students\, dozens of local bands\, and countless audience members in Western New York have been exposed to this unique American culture. The Big Easy in Buffalo is made possible in part by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Hochul and the NYS Legislature\, Erie County\, Goldfarb Financial\, Erie County Legislator Michael Kooshoian\, Cullen Foundation\, buffalo.fm\, Dick & Jenny’s\, Town Ballroom\, and National Fuel Gas Co.

Built on diverse\, catchable songwriting delivered by all four members Jared Sage Cowen (Guitar/Vocals)\, Max Perrotti (Bass/Vocals\, Daniel Cohen (Keys/Vocals)\, Henry Thomas (Drums/Vocals)\, Big Shrimp’s material has quickly earned national attention\, including placement on Spotify’s Modern Jam Band editorial playlist. \nKnown for their adventurous live shows\, the band balances tightly crafted originals with fresh\, unexpected covers — from Down Under to Elmo’s Song — all filtered through their playful\, high-energy lens. These performances have helped cultivate a fiercely loyal fanbase known as The Prawn Stars\, whose growing presence in rooms across the country has fueled the band’s rapid rise. That momentum landed Big Shrimp on Grateful Web’s “Top 12 Upcoming Jam Bands to Watch in 2026\,” further cementing their status as a breakout act. \n“They’re pure heat: long sets\, huge grooves\, and a rhythm section that feels like it could carry an entire block party by itself. Guitarist Jared Sage Cowen leads this squad on guitar to deliver a dance-worthy blend of prog rock\, blues rock\, and funk. Their fan base is growing fast because the shows are fun\, joyful\, sweaty\, and full of personality.” \n— GratefulWeb \nIn late 2025\, Big Shrimp released The Prawno Tapes\, Vol. 3\, the band’s third live album\, capturing highlights from an extensive Summer and Fall tour that included standout performances at Northlands Festival alongside Umphrey’s McGee\, moe.\, Corey Wong\, and more. The tour also saw the band supporting Spafford\, Eggy\, Big Something\, and Magic Beans\, expanding their national footprint. That momentum carried into a sold-out Phish After Party in NYC following Phish’s MSG New Year’s Eve run\, a show covered by Live For Live Music. \n“…yielding some of the funkiest\, most cathartic and most primal energy of the set. With catchy melodies\, impressive solos\, complex arrangements\, and shifting tempos and moods\, the band kept you on your toes and bobbing your head the entire show.” \n— NYSMusic \nHalloween has become a signature pillar of the Big Shrimp experience. In 2025\, the band unleashed their 2nd Annual Halloween Extravaganza (and Sage Entertainment’s 8th produced)\, transforming the show into an engaging\, theatrical spectacle. The night featured an original\, story-driven reinterpretation of Forrest Gump\, interwoven with original debuts\, themed covers\, massive props\, colossal shrimp\, boats\, ping pong tournaments\, and more — a tradition the band plans to expand annually. \nAlongside their live momentum\, Big Shrimp has gained significant traction on TikTok\, where viral performance clips and behind-the-scenes content consistently reach 20\,000+ views\, earning the band a reputation as one of the most viral young bands in the jam and improvised rock scene. This online growth has translated directly into packed rooms and a rapidly expanding national fanbase. \nCurrently\, Big Shrimp is charging through an extensive 2026 Winter Tour\, highlighted by four Colorado debut performances\, including a headlining appearance at the legendary Cervantes’\, alongside a Northeast run featuring Twiddle’s Ryan Dempsey as support for two consecutive nights. On the studio front\, the band released their debut single “Rex” on January 9th\, the first taste of their forthcoming debut studio album. \nWith more tours\, festival appearances — including breaking ground on one of their own — additional live releases\, and their debut album on the horizon\, Big Shrimp is charging full steam into 2026 with no signs of slowing down. \nBuffalo Iron Works \n49 Illinois St\, Buffalo\, NY 14203 \nTickets: $15 ADV/ $20 DOS \nDoors: 7:00pm \nShow: 8:00pm \nAges: All Ages \nAll-In Pricing Notice \nIn accordance with New York State law\, all ticketed events must display the total price of admission upfront — including all fees\, charges\, and taxes.
